Cortana’s Android and iOS mobile app is completely shut down by parent company Microsoft. The company had already uninstalled the app from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store back in November 2018. However, the app was still running on people who had already installed it. From March 31, 2021, Microsoft will cease to fully support Cortana.
The support page seen by 9to5Mac suggests that Microsoft means that reminders and lists will no longer be available to users within the app. Cortana’s reminders, lists, and functions are automatically synced to the Microsoft To-Do app, which is still available on Android and iOS.
“As we announced in July, we will soon end support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS, as Cortana continues to emerge as a product assistant,” Microsoft said.
“As of March 31, 2021, the Cortana content you create – such as reminders and lists – will no longer work in the Cortana mobile app, but will still be available via Cortana on Windows. Also, Cortana’s reminders, lists, and functions are automatically synced to the Microsoft To-Do app, which you can download to your phone for free, ”the company added.
Why is Cortana axed?
The closure of Cortana applications makes sense because Microsoft is integrating a voice support service with Microsoft 365 suite for production applications and an automatic voice assistant for Windows 10 devices, which has been in its infancy.
Integrating Cortana with Microsoft 365 allows features such as personalized, customized Outlook for Exchange users. Cortana can now be added to the Microsoft Team mobile app to manage calendars, emails, and join meetings among other things.
