Microsoft Windows Insider Program dev channel 20197.1000. rs_prerelease. 20197 200818-1420

Good afternoon, friends! Microsoft has released a new pre-build of Windows 10, numbered 20197, for Windows Insider members who use the Dev channel (formerly “Early access”).

Full build number: 20197.1000. rs_prerelease.200818-1420.

We remind you that the Dev channel releases build that can contain quite unpleasant errors. If you need more stability, we recommend switching to Beta channels (Late access) or Release Preview.

Innovations

Managing disks in ” Settings»

Microsoft has previously mentioned working on additional sections in Parameters, and you can evaluate them in today’s build. Now you can manage your disks and volumes from the Settings app. This would include tasks such as information about the create a disc and format the assign and volumes drive letters.

Unlike the existing disk Management (MMC) snap-in, this modern interface was built from scratch for maximum availability. It also integrates better with features such as disk space.

Go to Settings > System > Storage and click the disk and volume Management link to get started. Don’t forget to send feedback to Microsoft about this feature!

The Disk Management tool (MMC) is still available for those who need it.

Other insider updates

Android app streaming is available to all users

  • Microsoft is pleased to announce that the new feature of the “Your phone” app, which was announced on August 5 at the Samsung Unpacked event, is now available to all users. This feature allows you to instantly access mobile apps from your Android smartphone from your Windows 10 PC. You can conveniently pin your favourite apps to the taskbar or start menu for quick access to them.
  • Applications that you launch open in a separate window outside of the “Your phone” app, which allows you to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. If you need to respond quickly in a conversation or order food, you can do this using the PC’s large screen, keyboard, mouse, pen, or touch screen, just like in other PC apps.

Requirements for the function:

  • We recommend that you always use the latest version of Windows 10, the “Your phone” app, and the “Connect with Windows” feature.
  • The app comes with communication with windows 2.0 version and phone version is 1.20071.88
Available on some Android smartphones running Android 9.0 or higher with Windows Connection integration. A list of supported smartphones can be found at this link.
  • Your PC and smartphone must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • The feature becomes available gradually, so it may take several days before you see it on your device.Microsoft Windows Insider Program dev channel 20197.1000. rs_prerelease. 20197 200818-1420

Corrections:

  • Updated the Alt + Tab behaviour for Microsoft Edge tabs so that no more than 5 tabs are displayed in the menu by default, instead of all recent tabs. If you want to change this, you can always make a setting in Settings > System > Multitasking.
  • The company is considering including the Web Browsing section in The settings application header bar. In this build, some Insiders may see this change.
  • In the future, only the currently active image will be displayed next to your profile information in the “Settings” section.
  • Based on the feedback, we disable the ESENT warning with code 642 that appeared in “event Viewer”.
  • Now the new Microsoft Edge can be selected as the desired application in Assigned Assess.
  • Updated “Screen announcer”, so that now when using Microsoft Pinyin IME,” Screen announcer ” will be able to distinguish words and characters in sentences, providing detailed information for voicing.

Changes and improvements:

  • Fixed an issue where the header letters in the list of all apps in the start menu had unnecessary margins on the left if the list of apps is hidden.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a previously active tab to move to the top of the Alt + Tab list when navigating to a browser tab using Alt + Tab.
  • Fixed an issue where if you pinned a website to the taskbar and then moved the Microsoft Edge window with that open site to another virtual desktop, the corresponding open tabs for the pinned shortcut would not display on the new desktop.
  • Fixed an issue where the Sysprep command failed due to a 0×80073CFA error on several recent builds.
  • Fixed an issue where the group policy editor displayed the WnsEndpoint_Policy error message on several recent builds.
  • Fixed an issue where the get-Volume PowerShell command did not recognize volumes in exFAT format.
  • Fixed an issue that affected startup performance explorer.exe when downloading and logging in for the first time.
  • Fixed an issue where pinned folders in the start menu were displayed with a darker background than other tiles in a light theme.
  • Fixed a condition that could cause the font settings page in “Settings” to crash.
  • Fixed an issue where the old Microsoft Store icon was displayed in font settings and themes.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the “Status” page in the “Network and Internet” section to display the old network name instead of the name of the network you are currently connected to. Or the name on the page might not match what is displayed in the popup window on the taskbar.
  • Fixed an issue where some VPNs with the “Automatically use my Windows username and password (and domain, if any) to log in” option enabled did not connect automatically.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some insiders to get an error with a Hyperguard link on recent builds.
  • Fixed an issue when using the search field in Explorer where pressing the Enter key would cause the focus to go to the Quick access section instead of the search results.
  • Fixed an issue with Microsoft Pinyin IME where entering certain phrases caused the suggestion bar to close unexpectedly.
  • Fixed an issue with Microsoft Pinyin IME, double Pinyin form to type something like “goldb; du” where when the first candidate could be an English word, the word conversion did not work.
  • Fixed an issue when typing using Japanese IME that sometimes made it impossible to enter characters using Shift + < numeric keys> in password fields.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing some apps to crash when registering incorrect aggregates using Chinese Traditional DaYi IME.
  • Fixed an issue with Microsoft Bopomofo IME that caused it to apply Shift key events, causing IME mode to switch.
Fixed an issue that could cause a crash CTFMON.exe when you switch the focus to specific applications (for example, Outlook) when entering text using IME.
  • Fixed an issue where ImmGetCompositionString seemed not to return the accurate IME composition string for YOMI text fields.
  • Fixed an issue where the Windows key did not stand out when the touch keyboard was fully expanded after clicking on it in previous builds.
  • Fixed an issue with “Screen announcer” that caused scanning mode to not be disabled in Microsoft Teams.
  • Fixed an issue where Microsoft Flight Simulator did not run on the previous two builds due to an error that referred to “fileName, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect”.

Known Error:

  • Engineers are working to fix an issue that may cause some games from the Microsoft Store that are protected by Easy Anti-Cheat to fail to launch.
  • We are investigating reports that the system update process may stall for a long time when trying to install a new build.
  • Engineers are working to fix an issue that causes the Collapse, Expand, and Close buttons to remain in the source app after resizing the UWP app window. If you move the window, the buttons should move to the desired location.
  • We are investigating reports that the new taskbar feature doesn’t work with some pinned websites.
  • Engineers are working to fix the problem so that a real-time preview for pinned site tabs will work.
  • Engineers are working on enabling a new taskbar feature for already pinned websites. However, you can unpin a site from the taskbar, remove it from the edge://apps page, and then re-pin it.
  • Engineers are working to fix an issue where not all open tabs with this domain are displayed for pinned sites. You can fix this problem by pinning the site’s home page instead of a specific section (for example, pin microsoft.com rather than microsoft.com/windows).

We wish you a successful update!
